The Volume to Market Cap (Vol/Mcap) ratio measures trading activity relative to an asset's total market size. A high ratio means that a large fraction of the asset's total value is changing hands in a given period — indicating elevated interest, potential volatility, or a significant liquidity event. A low ratio suggests dormant trading activity relative to the asset's size.
Spikes in the Vol/Mcap ratio are often significant events. When a relatively small-cap token suddenly sees trading volume approaching or exceeding its total market cap, it suggests either a major announcement, coordinated buying, or a short squeeze. These high-turnover events can mark the beginning of a sustained price move or a blow-off top depending on the surrounding context.
Comparing the Vol/Mcap ratio across assets helps identify which tokens the market is currently paying attention to. During a broad market rally, some assets see disproportionate volume relative to their market cap — these are often the assets the market has chosen to 'run' in the current cycle. Assets with declining Vol/Mcap during a rally may be losing market interest and are at risk of lagging.
This heatmap visualizes the Vol/Mcap ratio for 50+ cryptocurrencies simultaneously, allowing you to quickly identify which assets are experiencing unusual activity and which are relatively quiet. Use it alongside price charts and market cap data to determine whether elevated volume is driving genuine price discovery or merely reflecting chaotic liquidations.
